Ten

Sweet Laughter,

You're TEN!!  It blows my mind that ten years have past since I first held you close as you purred. Tonight I was looking through old photos of you and these three I think sum up your personality perfectly:

Our super hero who is always ready to help.  Over these ten years we have watched you give all of yourself and sometime more to others.  Once you gave away all of your Christmas and birthday money to your friends.  You have physically over exceeded yourself with tasks to make life easier for others, it's not until we get home or much later that we realize just how sore your body is. We are learning that just because you offer doesn't mean you know when it's time to stop and take a breather.  At the same time the perseverance to love others at all cost has been beautiful, like that time we were in Japan and you gave a band aid to the little girl who scrapped her knee.  It's like you were born knowing that Love was a universal language and the way to speak was to simply Do.

You have always marched to the beat of your own drum.  You will give the shirt off your back to a stranger without a second thought, but you enjoy the details of picking out that shirt.  Our apple crisp dates always start with you needing the right shirt, pants, shoes, coat, gloves, hat, etc. You don't necessarily wear what's fashionable, but you wear what's meaningful not only to yourself, but to the one you are with.  It's not just clothes, this trait is in everything you do it's in the gifts you give, the way you create, the way you accomplish daily tasks.  It's an amazing gift that leaves your Dad and I in awe sometimes. You are my quietest son, but you notice things none of the rest of us notice.

My book worm. We can't go to the post office without at least three chapter books coming along for the ride just in case you get bored with one. I can't remember a time in your life when you didn't have a book at least with you.  I love it.  So many of our dates together involve books.  In a little less then a month you and I will be heading off on our Spa Weekend something you have been planning for almost a full year.  You told me the other day our first stop needs to be the book store.  Here's the budget and itinerary you have made up for us:

You are loved abundantly.  I'm really looking forward to going on our special get away.

Congrats on passing your first belt test.  I look forward to watching you pass many more.

My prayer for you this year is this: May the drum you march to not be your own, but be the beat of Jesus's heart.  As you continue to love the world I hope that you learn to show grace as well.  The combination of the two will have amazing results.  You are loved, valued and cherished by us, sweet Laughter.

Keep giving your best.  I am so proud to be your Momma.  I hope that we can find time to read together just as we have in the past.  It sounds simple but it's one of my favorite things to do with you.  I love you more then you will ever known.
